New Creative Nurture Group

New Creative Nurture Group

MCFB have been successful in securing short term funding from Random Arts Giving to run a new weekly Creative Nurture Group at Leith Community Centre aimed at women who have experienced trauma or a difficult experience that has left them with unpleasant memories.  Women attending the group will benefit from a series of group art therapy sessions aimed at helping the healing process as well as making connections with others. It will be a safe space and free child care will be provided.

The idea for this pilot group is based on a recognition that whilst women's lived experiences may be understood by professionals and services, and these may be able to offer support that may be beneficial, individuals themselves are the only ones that can fully understand their own experiences. Art therapy is a useful means of improving mental wellbeing and helping individuals identify and harness their strengths. By providing a supportive environment, it is hoped that women will feel safe to form and draw strength from constructive social relationships.

The group is jointly organized by Early Years Service Manager, Marise Gowenlock and Bright Choices project worker, Omolara Plang, with art therapy being provided by Yawen Wun and runs every Wednesday until 21st March 2018 from 11 am until 12.30 pm at Leith Community Centre, 12a Newkirkgate, Edinburgh EH6 6AD. Referrals can be made by telephone on 0131 467 7052 .
