On Being a Finalist for SASW Student Social Worker of the Year

Katharine Nicholson,

University of Stirling social work student and current member of staff, Katja Nicholson, is a finalist at the Scottish Association of Social Workers (SASW) Social Work Awards. The winners of the award will be announced today, Tuesday 20th March, at the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton Highland Hotel during an evening reception.

Speaking about the news Katja said:

"Today, on World Social Work Day 2018, we stand together to raise awareness of the profession and celebrate the achievements of social workers worldwide. I am honored to have been shortlisted for the SASW Student Social Worker of the Year 2017 Award and am looking forward to an inspiring evening celebrating social work practice in Scotland.

I am reminded today of the importance of my colleagues' hard work, dedication and commitment in supporting families from all over the world at MCFB. Being a student at MCFB afforded me a unique and powerful learning experience, opening my eyes to many cross-cultural issues in social work, including the daily challenges many Black and Minority Ethnic families are facing in Scotland today. It is a privilege to work with families from all over the world and I am proud to be in a profession where I can play a small part in promoting a fairer and more inclusive society."
