Funding reprieve for threatened projects

Equal Edinburgh campaign update image

Following our Equal Edinburgh campaign earlier this year, we were relieved to learn that, despite not being awarded funding via the Children and Families Third Party Grants award process, the Short Life Working Group, commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council’s Education, Children and Families Committee, recommended continuation Funding be awarded to 15 projects that were initially turned down.

The Group recognised that BAME agencies were underrepresented in the allocation of grants, and funding was awarded to MCFB as well as Equal Edinburgh coalition partners, Sikh Sanjog.

Imagining - refugee week 2020

During the past weeks and months, many of us have had time to reflect and to imagine a different future when we eventually return to some sort of normality. We might imagine having a healthier lifestyle, a fairer and more equal society or a more caring approach to the environment. 'Imagining' is the theme of this year’s refugee week. We ask you to imagine what it would be like to have to leave your family behind. Many of the refugee children and parents we support had to leave friends and family behind when they left their countries for safety and to build a new life in Scotland.

Dear Families,

Are equalities off the agenda?

MCFB, Sikh Sanjog and Intercultural Youth Scotland have expressed their concern to the City of Edinburgh Council’s Education, Children and Families Committee after being told on 26 February that their services targeting vulnerable and hard-to-reach Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) children and families have not been recommended for funding in the list of Children and Families Third Party Grants.
