Family SupportIn addition to the services provided by the various projects MCFB provides a range of supports to families. Individuals and families may ask for support themselves, or a request might come from a friend or family member or from a voluntary or statutory agency. Sometimes there may be one member of a family needing support, on other occasions we work with various members of the family, both adults and children. The support offered can include advice, practical help e.g. with housing applications, counselling, play work with children, activity-based work or any other support agreed. The aim is always to promote resilience and self-esteem for both children and adults and to help families to support each other and to be more confident in the wider community. Some families may need support over a long time whilst others will value short-term help. Much of the direct work with families is undertaken by social work students supported by qualified staff, though when longer-term or complex support is needed we try to ensure that one of our staff members provides this. This means that more families are able to receive support and also means that future social workers are gaining experience of doing direct work and working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. |
